Ofsted, the Audit Commission, The Commission for Social Care Inspection and the Healtcare Commission carried out a Joint Area Review of Newham's Children's Services in Spring 2006. The Borough's provision was judged as Outstanding in the following areas:
- Enjoying and achieving
- Making a positive contribution
- Achieving economic wellbeing
- The Education Service
And Good in the following areas:
- Being Healthy
- Service Management
- Capacity to improve
- Children's services
- The health service for children
The report stated that the borough has "strong ambitions, good leadershp, effective partnerships and well targeted action" which results in
